Norse mythology (most commonly called) all start from the pre-Christian religion of the Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, and Danish peoples. Some say the Finnish did not believe in the Norse religion, but there are some major similarites between both religions.
It is basically like any other ancient religion, all revolving around the basic creation of the Earth. Unimaginable gods governing seperate parts of the world. Their minors that play major parts in fictional stories that describe how things came to be.
Though it sounds pretty simple, this is only the beginning, after all.
